social media automation

Marketing automation is the science of getting things done with the minimum effort possible. In social media you can do the same thing but you have to do it in the right way.

When you use automation in sales and marketing the risk is to appear unnatural and fake, and this is something you need to avoid. I know, most of you think this it’s unfair to simulate a human and send emails in first person. But marketing is going in this direction and when you are doing it the right way you don’t even know it’s a complete automation process.

But what I mean with social media automation?

Today we handle an average of three or more social networks, email are coming like bombs in our inbox and keeping up with all the new tools is getting challenging.

So a little help is great in order to never miss a new opportunity

How I automated social media: Twitter

social automation Twitter

A few days ago I was looking for a way to increase my opt-in conversions and create an automation workflow for my Twitter account. I know that it might sound wired but it’s an effective way. How does it work?

The goal of Twitter automation is to generate new followers and send them a DM (direct message) as soon as they start following us. The good thing is that this process is completely automated.

How can you do it?

In order to target new potential followers you just need to use an automation tool like FastFollowers. With this software you will be able to automate pretty much everything you need, from favorites, retweets and engagement packages.

-> SEE FASTFOLLOWERS

So, if you use one of the Twitter packages available, you’ll have an automation workflow that will engage with other accounts, automatically. This means that it will automatically favorite and follow other account in target with your page.

In fact, you can also decide what kind of interests and hashtags to target in order to get the most engagement.

I know what you are thinking: “But this is not an ethic and social way to interact on social media”. I know, and maybe you are right, but thousands of people are using this method and they are getting good results.

If you are not doing it, someone else of your same industry, or a competitor, is doing it. And you can’t keep up with a bot.

Here the thing: we can’t spend so much time on social media, otherwise we cannot focus on our core business.

What’s next?

Now that you have set up your automation, you need to be sure it’s working properly and your system is “targeting” the right profile. Nice, if it’s working properly now you need to set up the second step.

The DM or direct message engagement. What does it mean?

If you have correctly targeted your campaign, you should start getting new followers. Since “you” are favoring and following people, other users will start noticing your account and they will start following you if interested.

Ok, so what happens when they follow you?

You need to create a free account on Unfollowers. It’s a tool that monitors your social analytics, like your daily new follow and unfollow. Among the others, one of the best option available, is to send a welcome DM on Twitter to welcome your new followers.

-> SEE UNFOLLOWERS

When you login, you’ll see an option in the menu bar called “automate”. If you click on it, you will see some automation option, and the “Welcome DM”.

As Unfollowers says: “New follow are potential customers, and people who might ne genuinely interested in you”. In fact when someone follows you, means that he’s interested in your page or business and he’ll be probably curious to discover something more about you.

Some practical examples

Ok, now, based on your business, you can create custom Direct Messages for Twitter an automate part of your marketing process. The best way to grab your new followers attention is to offer a free or bonus content. If you already use a freebie on other platforms you can use it that one.

Freebies are great to convert your new follower into a real lead and invite him to be part of your email list. Once there, you can target your new lead with a series of automated emails, or autoresponder. But that’s another chapter 🙂

In my case, I used DM to thank my new followers and send them a free guide they can download through a link. (yes you can also add a link).

  • If you sell products online you can offer a coupon to redeem within 24 hours, in order to keep your leads “hot” and motivated to purchase within a few hours.
  • If you offer training course or guides you can send a link to an intro video
  • Or, you can invite your new followers to subscribe to your newsletter or follow you on another social account.

Conclusion

As you see, automating your social media has a lot of benefits in terms of time and engagement. If you are dubious on the human or ethic side you can start testing it and see how you fell about it.

Usually this tools allow you to meet new people and start a conversation thanks to an automate message. I tried, and thank to it I met new people and found new clients.

I think it’s just a matter of habit and, if you don’t like it, you can always push a button and turn your social media automation off 🙂
